Abstract:
We will be celebrating National Croissant Day on Monday, 1/30. Beginning at 10 am, there will be croissants in the h-bar for all JILAns to enjoy. Come chow down on some fluffy, flaky pastries with us to celebrate this obscure holiday!
Mental Health First Aid training helps a person with no clinical training assist someone experiencing a mental health crisis. Mental Health First Aiders learn a 5-step strategy to assess and support someone in crisis.
Participants are introduced to risk factors and warning signs, engage in experiential activities and learn about evidence-supported treatment and self-help strategies.
Understand the difference between stress and anxiety, while learning helpful management strategies. Mindfulness techniques will be included, as well as information about resources available on campus.

The Richard Nelson Thomas Award was established by the friends and family of R.N. "Dick" Thomas to provide an annual award to the year's most outstanding graduate student(s) in astrophysics. Each year, the JILA astrophysical faculty nominate outstanding students and vote to determine the recipient of the award.
Abstract: X-rays provide a unique spectroscopic view of molecules and
materials, from an element-specific and orbital-selective frame of
reference. Femtosecond and attosecond X-ray and extreme ultraviolet pulses
(XUV) are used to probe curve crossings and conical intersections in
molecules, electron and hole carriers in solids, coherent phonon motions,
and core hole excitons, revealing breathtaking 'movies' of novel, ultrashort
dynamical processes.

Physics Frontiers Centers (PFCs)
The Physics Frontiers Centers (PFC) program supports university-based centers and institutes where the collective efforts of a larger group of individuals can enable transformational advances in the most promising research areas. The program is designed to foster major breakthroughs at the intellectual frontiers of physics by providing needed resources such as combinations of talents, skills, disciplines, and/or specialized infrastructure, not usually available to individual investigators or small groups, in an environment in which the collective efforts of the larger group can be shown to be seminal to promoting significant progress in the science and the education of students. PFCs also include creative, substantive activities aimed at enhancing education, broadening participation of traditionally underrepresented groups, and outreach to the scientific community and general public.
