In an article titled: “NIST Experts Achieve Covid Detection Tech Breakthrough,” Mirage News highlights the work of JILA and NIST Fellows Jun Ye and David Nesbitt, as they recently used frequency comb technology to help detect particles of the COVID-19 virus.
According to the article: “At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, colleagues from the National Academy of Sciences and federal funding agencies approached Dr. Ye. They asked if NIST's research into frequency combs could be used to detect the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 infection in human breath.”
After this initial request, Ye collaborated with Nesbitt, who focuses on biophysics, to create their“breathalyzer” apparatus.
