Opportunities

Postdoctoral Positions

We are always looking for enthusiastic and talented postdocs to develop and apply state-of-the-art atomic force microscopy (AFM) and optical traps to elucidate the dynamics and energetics of single bio-molecules. These positions will span a range of instruments and applications, including AFM studies of membrane proteins, DNA-protein interactions, and the nanomechanics of tubulin and myosin as well as optical-trapping studies of DNA and helicases. We continue to have a strong interested in parallel instrument development activities.

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated to conduct independent research, have excellent communication skills, and enjoy working in a collaborative environment. Expertise in methods development, quantitative analysis, and/or modeling is desirable. Background in single-molecule biophysics is a plus but not essential. Requirements: A Ph.D. in a related field (Physics, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Material Science, etc.). Candidates with a strong background in experimental biophysics, biochemistry, atomic physics, or condensed-matter physics are encouraged to apply.

Interested individuals can contact Tom Perkins directly at tperkins@jila.colorado.edu. There is also currently a formal search, where individuals interested in AFM force spectroscopy should apply here. US citizens are also eligible for a competitive two-year NRC Fellowship of $72,750/yr. For more information, please visit here.

Graduate Student Positions

The Perkins group has multiple positions for highly motivated, energetic students with physics, chemistry and biochemistry experience who are interested in gaining early-career laboratory experience.  You must have a strong track record of academic excellence.  To apply, contact Professor Perkins directly at tperkins@jila.colorado.edu.

Undergraduate Positions

We welcome inquiries from undergraduates to join our lab.  Please email Professor Perkins (tperkins@jila.colorado.edu) and include a copy of your transcript. Preference is given to students earlier in their undergraduate career.
