Abstract:
Detection of reaction intermediates in homogeneous electrocatalysis is challenging due to their low concentration and formation near an electrode.1-5 We have developed a setup that allows direct coupling between the working electrode and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. The setup allows scanning voltammetry while monitoring the species formed at the electrode by mass spectrometry. Hence, we can directly connect redox waves in cyclic voltammetry with the detected molecular species. The lecture will highlight applications of electrochemistry-mass spectrometry coupling in investigating electrocatalytic oxygen and CO2 reduction reactions.
