Seminar Abstract:
Australian astronomy is a story of indigenous peoples and cultures, colonial exploration and observatories, national research institutions, and international collaborations. Australia’s role in the space age has been limited but the advent of an Australian Space Agency is fostering better links between astronomy and space. USQ’s research connects ground and space-based astronomy and is focused on studying the shared evolution of stars and their planetary systems. This research includes use of Mt Kent Observatory and Siding Spring Observatory in Australia, as well as international facilities.

In-person attendance is permitted, subject to the LASP Covid restrictions, i.e., social distancing, reduced capacity requirements, masks for attendees excepting the speaker (assuming no one is seated within six feet of the speaker).
If you are interested in attending, please contact Jeremy Averyt (firstname.lastname at lasp.colorado.edu) to be added to the mailing list or for Zoom information.
The Physics Frontiers Centers (PFC) program supports university-based centers and institutes where the collective efforts of a larger group of individuals can enable transformational advances in the most promising research areas. The program is designed to foster major breakthroughs at the intellectual frontiers of physics by providing needed resources such as combinations of talents, skills, disciplines, and/or specialized infrastructure, not usually available to individual investigators or small groups, in an environment in which the collective efforts of the larger group can be shown to be seminal to promoting significant progress in the science and the education of students. PFCs also include creative, substantive activities aimed at enhancing education, broadening participation of traditionally underrepresented groups, and outreach to the scientific community and general public.
